The Force series Jake HMS Carabiner makes a superb belay/rappel carabiner because of its broad (and rounded) rope bearing surface.  This friction interface makes both rappelling and lowering exceptionally smooth and predictable.  The Jake is equipped with a side-swing gate that provides sizable clearance and ease of use; this combined with the spacious basket make it ideal as a master-point carabiner. The Keylock design prevents snagging on ropes, webbing, and hardware. Available in Screw-lock and Twist-lock versions.
