160DD

The AIRE 160DD is the largest boat in the DD “Double Diminished” series. Even as a large boat it’s still a maneuverable, high-performance choice for big groups on extended trips. The 160DD can handle a large frame loaded with coolers, 40″ dry boxes, and a pile of gear in the back. The 160DD is not too small for the Colorado River and not too large to run as a paddle raft with 8 of your friends.

What makes the AIRE 160DD special?

  • Expedition Performance: Load it down. It can take it. The 160DD has been designed as a high-performance expedition raft. Even loaded you can make it move!
  • Serious Kick: The bow and stern rise on this boat is 15”. No other AIRE raft can match it. It crawls over waves a 4-wheel drive.
  • Diminished Bow and Stern Tubes: Slice through waves with 16” necked down bow and stern tubes on the 160DD.
  • Short Waterline: Even as a 16’ boat the 160DD has a 114” waterline, which contributes to its expedition performance characteristics.
Key Features:
  • Favorite rivers: High volume rivers such as the Snake or Colorado.
  • Ideal for: longer multi-day rowing expeditions or up to an 8 person paddle team plus a guide.
  • Performs exceptionally well for a 16' raft.
  • Quick, self-bailing lace-in floor.
  • Add up to 4 strap-in thwarts anywhere along the floor lacing for paddle teams.
  • 37 oz. double lacquer gray PVC on the chafe strip and raft bottom for extra resistance to abrasion.
  • Plenty of room in the bow and stern for passengers and a gear pile.

Comes With:

  • Raft collar
  • Regular floor pocket
  • Floor lacing rope
  • Full repair kit
  • Owner's manual

SELF-BAILING RAFT - FLOOR SYSTEMS

Two different types of self-bailing floor pockets are available for all AIRE brand rafts.
The Regular Floor Pocket comes standard with all AIRE rafts while the Sealed Floor Pocket is optional ($620).

The Regular Floor Pocket (RFP)

HOW IT’S BUILT:
The (RFP) is constructed by sewing the PVC floor top and bottom to a zipper
along the perimeter edge of the floor pocket.
An air floor AIREcell is placed inside the pocket which keeps the floor rigid and
buoyant.
Drain holes are built into the bottom of the floor pocket.

DESIGN ADVANTAGES:
Aids in tracking and stability.
While on the river, water will enter the drain holes and add ballast to the boat.
This extra ballast creates a low center of gravity which helps the raft ‘stick’ to
the water and can sometimes help prevent a flip.

RECOMMENDED FOR:
This design comes standard with all our rafts.
Great choice for paddle rafts of all size

The Sealed Floor Pocket (SFP)

HOW IT’S BUILT:
The (SFP) is constructed by welding the PVC floor top and bottom together along
the perimeter to form a waterproof pocket.
1 watertight zipper is installed on the floor top to access the air floor AIREcell.
3 valves are installed. The inflation valve, the pressure relief valve and a burp valve
that relieves air pressure caught between the AIREcell and the floor pocket.

DESIGN ADVANTAGES:
The SFP does not take on any water to ballast, this will make the raft slightly faster
and more responsive in whitewater.
Owners don’t have to wait a couple minutes at the take out for water to drain out
of the raft floor pocket.
No need to rinse out the floor pocket after trips down silty rivers.

RECOMMENDED FOR:
Good choice for rowing large, gear hauling rafts.
Rivers that require portages.
The SFP is a good option when mostly running silty rivers.

*Floors do not come installed – call 801-455-5450 to add an install (additional fee) to your order.
